Despite yesterday's deluge and strong winds I had two Pine Siskins feeding
on my deck. They were joined by a lone, non-breeding plumage Goldfinch. A
flock of 17 red-wing blackbirds fed throughout the day. The RWBB's were
mixed adult and immature in a mix of plumage. Occassionally an adult
sharp-shinned hawk visited, looking for a snack but unsuccessful. The jays
around here have a good lookout system posted so the sharpie is rarely
successful. A lone mourning dove has been feeding under the deck or perched
in the dogwood tree beyond the deck for several days now. Hopefully it will
become a permanent fixture here as it reminds me so much of the winter birds
I had back in SE Wisconsin.
