Hi Tweeters,

Rainier Audubon Society is having a field trip to
areas around the Cedar River and south Lake
Washington. Sign ups have been on the light side so
any interested Tweeters are welcome.

Trip starts at 8:30am Cavanaugh Ponds on the Cedar
River between Renton and Maple Valley. Directions
below. Possibilities for birds include Wood Ducks,
Hooded and Common Mergansers, and other waterfowl,
flocks of passerines (easier to see now, with all the
leaves down), and eagles. If we are lucky an American
Dipper or Red Breasted Sapsucker. Also the Sockeye
Salmon are spawning in the river and ponds. From
there we will visit Coulon Park at the south end of
Lake Washington where we may see Canvassbacks, Western
and other Grebes, Greater White-Fronted Geese, and
many other water birds. After Coulon we will visit
Cedar River Trail Park at the mouth of the Cedar
River.
This park features a trail, a dock out over the water,
and views of the river and Lake Washington. Many
birds flock to this area for the fall salmon runs.
Bring lunch, and a scope if you have one. Expect to
walk up to 1 mile on level trails. Trip should be
over by early afternoon.

***Also dress warm and drive carefully, it is likely
to be very icy tomorrow morning***

Directions from I405 take exit 4 to hwy 169, the Maple
Valley Highway going east toward Maple Valley. Travel
approximately 5 miles east from Renton and turn left
onto 174th. The park is immediately on the left.
There should be plenty of parking. If you want to
Mapquest the directions the address is 17410 SE Renton
Maple Valley Rd. If you get lost call me at (206)
390-3159 and I will get you there!
