There was lots of activity today at a partially
flooded Fife field on 12th St. E, just off 54th Ave.
E. The pumpkins were not harvested, so all kinds of
birds have gathered there: Crows, Starlings, Brewer's
Blackbirds, Western Sandpipers, lots of Killdeer and
at least 14 Snipe. Hard to see them sometimes till
they jump over a pumpkin. Also Canadas, Mallards,
etc. And just a couple of blocks from there, on 12th
St. between Alexander Ave. and 54th Ave. E., a Scrub
Jay perched in a tree before flying across the
road--almost exactly where I saw one Oct. 26. Other
highlights today were 20+ G.W. Teal, 12 Buffleheads,
8-10 Goldfinches, Lincoln Sparrow, 4 Fox Sparrows
together (3 perched on one small branch), 3 W.C
Sparrows, 8 G.C. Sparrows, plus 2 Snipe in a different
field. On Nov. 2, 5 W. Meadlowlarks landed on the lawn
in front of the Kaiser Aluminum office on Taylor Way,
and on Nov. 8 a Spotted Sandpiper worked the mudflats
at the Hylebos mitigated area near Marine View Dr. and
Taylor Way.
