.......Despite about 4-5" of snow Thurs. and snow flurries yesterday
morn----just the usual cloudy 41 degree weather today.
.......Plenty of ducks and hawks present at River-S unit---Ridgefiekd
NWR. Loads of PINTAILS. Along with the usual SCAUPS, RINGNECKS,
WIDGEONS, BUFFLEHEAD, etc.....etc.....etc. there were 10 TUNDRA SWANS; 1
BITTERN, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK(along with an immature RED-TAIL and several
HARRIERS); 2 CANVASBACKS were spotted. Also some small wren-sized birds
that were not identified. Then there were the usual humungous numbers of
CANADA GEESE. A small hawk was seen flying overhead---appeared to be a
MERLIN, but limited view prevented a positive ID
.......Finally.....2 coyotes (1 each in 2 separate locations by the road)
were spotted.
........The wetlands at Salmon Creek in Brush Prairie are getting greater
numbers of ducks each year. (.....next to the SR business 503 bridge).
Along with the numbers of WIDGEONS, MALLARDS; BUFFLEHEAD, were 2 WOOD
DUCKS and a CORMORANT.
