Dennis:

The Eagles must be taking advantage of the sunshine. I was folding clothes
this morning when all of a sudden a beautiful mature Eagle came swooping in out
of nowhere. He made a dramatic dive as though he were going to snag a fish,
but instead he set his sights on a female bufflehead. She dove under, but then
the Eagle threw on his brakes and did a 180. Buffy wasted no time. She took off
in the opposite direction, flapping for her life. That eagle chased that poor
little duck for nearly 15 minutes from one end of Pine Lake to the other and
back again!!

I don't know how, but Buffy managed to escape an untimely - not to mention
painful - demise. Finally, the Eagle perched in a tree for about an hour, then
swooped down, harassed everybody, and bugged out.

Eagles are common in the Spring, but not this time of year, so this was a
real shocker. I'll bet Buffy is still saying, "Be still my beating heart." :) I
know the Eagle is still out there, because the crows are going crazy, and
more telling still, so are the gulls.

A beautiful day and a little birding drama - it doesn't get much better than
this.
