I have had several requests for directions to the
Snohomish Gyrfalcon, so here are the basics:

>From highway 2, take the 92nd St exit (next exit east
of hwy 9) and turn south to drive into town. Drive
through the first traffic light and take the next left
onto Lincoln (you are now heading south). This road
passes out of town and becomes the Old
Snohomish-Monroe Rd as you enter farm fields. About
1.3-1.5 miles from town look for a large white garage
type building on the left. It has a sign that says
"Westwind Farm". Directly across from this farmhouse
compound is a large green farm field with a couple of
big old trees spaced very widely apart (across the
slough). These are some of the Gyr's favorite
perches. The bird is not always found here, but has
been hanging out in the general vicinity south of
snohomish for at least three years now. The bird is
an adult gray morph Gyr. Try the various farm roads if
you don't find the bird here. There are usually
50-200 swans hanging out around here in the winter
also, but I have yet to see them this year, though
swans are now being reported in the Snohomish valley.

Good luck and good birding to all.
