Tweets - today was really quite a nice day, standing in rather stark
contrast with last Wednesday. The birds were more numerous, more visible,
and more interesting as well. I never even got around to filing a report
last week for there really was only a single highlight which I will list
here.

Today was fairly warm, dry, and not too dark. There was even a patch or two
of blue sky. It took us about 20 minutes to leave the parking lot because
so many birds were there.

Highlights:

OSPREY Extremely late sighting
Northern Harrier Female over East Meadow
Sharp-shinned Hawk So small it must have been a male
Anna's Hummingbird ID presumed by season
Band-tailed Pigeon A large flock over dog meadow
Hairy Woodpecker Male at Rowing Club
Varied Thrush Female NE of mansion
Cedar Waxwing One small flock - getting late for
them
Townsend's Warbler Megan spotted one NE of the mansion
WH.-THROATED SPARROW By the parking lot early
Brown-headed Cowbird Only our 2nd winter sighting

A pretty good day for ducks, with GADWALL, MALLARD, a flock of NORTHERN
SHOVELER flying down the slough, 2 drake GREEN-WINGED TEAL at the Rowing
Club along with a single male RING-NECKED DUCK, quite a few BUFFLEHEAD, and
several nice looks at HOODED MERGANSER.

The OSPREY was flying south over West Lake Samm. Parkway, and was seen
definitively.

The HUMMINGBIRD was big and flying fast to the NE across the East Meadow.

The WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was in the blackberries at the southwest corner
of the dog area parking lot in a large flock of GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS that
also contained a SONG SPARROW, a FOX SPARROW, a couple of WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS, and some HOUSE SPARROWS.

All COWBIRD sightings at Marymoor have been in the period from late March
through the end of August, with the exception of a single Christmas record,
so today's male in the Interpretive Lot was quite a surprise.
