Tweets,
Judy Mullally found a SNOW BUNTING on Ediz Hook yesterday and I went out
in the afternoon with a visiting friend and we also saw it. Interestingly it
was in the same area that Russell Rogers had found a LAPLAND LONGSPUR some
weeks ago. Both Snow Buntings and Lapland Longspurs are seen much less
frequently on the North Olympic since most of Dungeness Spit was closed to
public access.
The exact area lies from west of the restrooms (near the boat launch
area) to the small brown building on the harbor side with a number of
antennas on it. The BUNTING was on both the harbor side and the Strait side
and was the only passerine seen on that stretch.
The numbers of birds (including shorebirds) in Port Angeles Harbor has
been down for the last few years but a careful search can turn up most. No
ROCK SANDPIPERS can be found nor were any reported last year. They are
probably around but the log raft favored by the shorebirds this year is so
far out in the harbor that it would be hard to sure of a ROCK even at 60X.
