The LSU Museum of Natural Science seeks a dynamic individual to be
Coordinator of a new project designed to heighten interaction between
ornithologists, birdwatchers, and other parties interested in the birds of
Louisiana. Funding for the position has been secured for three years, with
a possibility of the position becoming permanent.

Required Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree, but M.S. or Ph.D.
preferred; strong background in bird natural history and field skills; three
or more years of experience interacting with bird-watchers. We seek an
energetic, enthusiastic, and personable individual eager to work with
amateur and professional ornithologists in Louisiana. The position will
entail coordinating efforts to survey and assess bird populations in
Louisiana, presenting promotional programs to organizations with interests
in the birds of Louisiana, and cultivating active working relationships
between such groups and the Museum.

Responsibilities: General: provide leadership towards achieving the primary
goal of the project, namely to develop a clearinghouse for information on
the status, distribution, and on-going studies of Louisiana bird
populations;

Immediate goals: to help complete a Louisiana bird-finding guide that is
currently nearly finished; to co-author and complete a major book on the
status and distribution of birds of Louisiana that is currently partially
finished; and to spearhead effort to establish on-line data-bases on
Louisiana bird distribution. Salary will be $30,000/year [plus benefits].
