Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 2. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On October 1 a bright YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was at Frenchglen. A probable
RED-THROATED PIPIT was heard calling as it flew about the South Jetty of the
Columbia River September 28. On September 30 a kettle of 8 BROAD-WINGED
HAWKS passed over the Bonney Butte HawkWatch Station southeast of Mt. Hood.
The next day another was seen there.

A dark phased GYRFALCON was south of Bandon September 22. The next day one
began to be seen north of Florence. Conspicuous migrants during the week
included PIPITS, LINCOLN?S SPARROWS, and WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was on the North Spit of Coos Bay September 25. An
AVOCET was there September 28. A BOBOLINK was at the South Jetty of the
Siuslaw River September 28. A MANX SHEARWATER was reported from Boiler Bay
September 25. A PALM WARBLER was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
September 27 and one was at Gearhart the next day.

On September 25, 144 GREAT EGRETS were at Ridgefield NWR. The WHITE PELICANS
continue to be seen on Sauvie Island, however the wildlife area is now
closed to entry. Good numbers of SANDHILL CRANES are on the Island and at
Ridgefield NWR. The first flocks of northern CANADA GEESE are now arriving.
Two CRANES were over Corvallis September 29. That day two PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On September 26, 30 COMMON TERNS were at McNary Dam north of Hermiston. A
MARBLED GODWIT was at the LaGrande Sewage Ponds September 25. A BOREAL OWL
was calling during the week near the junction of forest roads 65 and 64,
north of Tollgate in Wallowa County.

On September 28 a BLACK PHOEBE and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Barnes
Springs east of Frenchglen and two COMMON TERNS were at Knox Pond in Malheur
NWR. That day four SURF SCOTERS were near Headquarters. This corresponded
with a heavy movement along the coast. On September 29 a VIRGINIA?S WARBLER
was at 6 Mile Pond in the Catlow Valley, and on September 30 a PALM WARBLER
was at Headquarters.

That?s it for this week.
