Hi Tweeters,

I am trying to squeeze in some after/before work
birding before those days disappear until 2004.

Last night at Boeing ponds at near dusk and dusk I saw
21 LB Dowitchers and 4 Greater Yellowlegs. The
majority of them were very vocal. That clinches the
LB Dowitchers but I learned at Dennis Paulson talk at
WOS conference that this time of year LB are most
likely anyway. That kind of info is helpful in
steering a person the right way even if the birds are
quiet. Last night and one other time I had fun
observing one of the Dowitchers open it's bill and
"stretch" the upper bill upwards. It is amazing how
much of it is actually very flexible.

This morning 3 totally different raptors at the fill.
The very small Peregrine, along with a Red Tail Hawk
on the dead trees by Lake Washington and an immature
Sharp Shinned by the big pond.

Does the very diminutive falcon have a moniker yet?
He is so distinctive. If not I would like to suggest
Phil as in, "I saw Phil Falcon at the Fill."

Happy birding!

Kathy
