This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Friday,
September 26th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores
in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for BLACKPOLL WARBLER.

Sightings for September 26th

At No. 5 Road and River Road in Richmond, in a stand of cottonwoods
was a
BLACKPOLL WARBLER.

Over Iona Island, Richmond was a flock of 11 EURASIAN COLLARED DOVES.
It is unknown whether they are escapees.

>From Reifel Bird Sanctuary comes the report of 3 SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPERS, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, an AMERICAN BITTERN, a BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON and 3 PEREGRINE FALCONS.

At the Tsawwassen ferry terminal was a HEERMANN'S GULL.

Sightings for September 25th

At Reifel, there were 2 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS near the tower.

At Boundary Bay, between 96th and 104th, were 4 GREATER WHITE- FRONTED
GEESE.

Sightings for September 24th

A boat trip to the Bird and Grebe Islets in West Vancouver had
highlights of
150 SURFBIRDS and 6 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Another SURFBIRD was seen from Lighthouse Marine Park in Point
Roberts. Also here was a PARASITIC JAEGER. Nearby, seen from Lily
Point were 6 BLACK SCOTERS and a TURKEY VULTURE.

The SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was once again seen at Reifel and the two
MARBLED GODWITS remain at the Tsawwassen ferry jetty.
