Hi Everyone:
Recently we heard that some groups hadn't been able to do a short walk
(0.3 miles) onto Spencer Island from near the Everett Sewer Ponds.
Instead they had to walk over 1.5 miles each way from the trail near
Langus Park. I called Everett Sewer Ponds and asked what was going
on. The clerk had a memo that she read to me with closure times, and
then she let me speak to Charles Johnstone. He gave some more
information.

The corp (I guess he means the Army Corps of Engineers) will be
raising and changing some dikes near the access road. The almost-dry
wetlands as you approach the island will become salt marsh. The dikes
must be raised to meet some Corps requirements. Charles says he feels
that birding may even be improved there eventually.

The 4th street road to Spencer Island with its convenient small
parking lot for hunters and birders will be closed for the following
periods:
Aug through Oct 18 or 19, 2003
May 1 through Oct 2004
July through Oct 2005

As with many construction projects, these times sound approximate, so
you might want to call ahead if you are visiting near the closure
dates:
Everett Water Pollution Control Facility
