Birding was fairly slow in Tacoma's north end today, except for
spotting a juvenile Western Scrub Jay hanging out near the fire
station in the Proctor area. The jay may be around for a bit, since
it was very tame. This is the second Western Scrub Jay I have seen in
Tacoma over the last couple of days, after seeing what seemed like
hundreds of them in the Salem area in Oregon last weekend.

The only other local birding note was an escaped Budgie that was
feeding at our feeders in the yard yesterday. From the looks of the
blue and white feathers on the ground in our yard this morning, one
of the neighborhood cats had it for a snack...

Along Ruston Way on the Tacoma waterfront the Horned Grebes are back
in small numbers, and I keep seeing about a dozen Surf Scoters
picking at the edges of bouys in the bay every day, presumably
snatching seaweed or barnacles. Dark-eyed Juncos returned to our yard
within the last week, and there was a single Orange-crowned Warbler
in the ash tree outside our breakfast nook window yesterday morning.

Happy birding!
