On Saturday, Jim Pruske and I led a Black Hills Audubon field trip to
Mayfield Lake, Riffe Lake and the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery. Despite on and
off rain showers, we were able to tally 52 species for the day.
At Mayfield Lake we had;
Western Grebe - 3
Horned Grebe - 1
Common Loon - 6
Spotted Sandpiper - 1
California Gull - 1
Yellow Rumped Warblers

At Riffe Lake we had;
Wood Duck
American Wigeon
Green Winged Teal
Ring Necked Duck
Common Merganser
Common Loon - 4
Bald Eagle - 2
Red Tailed Hawk - 1
Long Billed Dowitcher - 2

At the hatchery we had;
American Dipper - 1
Savannah Sparrow
Golden Crowned Sparrow
Violet Green Swallows
Spotted Sandpiper - 2

Others seen were;
1 Peregrine Falcon in Mossyrock
1 American Kestrel along Hwy 12
