Saturday, October 4, 9:27 PM. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today at Vantage,
about halfway between the freeway and Wanapum Dam State Park there was a
rather early, immature GYRFALCON perched on a telephone pole at the side of the
road and then took off and chased ducks around along the river. There was also a
late WESTERN TANAGER at Wanapum Dam State Park. A pure YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKER
was there as well as a HYBRID and a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO. At Dry Falls State
Park, in the afternoon there were 5 PACIFIC LOONS and a COMMON TERN. That's it.
Good luck and good birding.
Sunday, October 5, 9:13 PM. Hi, this is Barry Levine, (206) 526-8676,
reporting on a trip taken Saturday, October 4th to Pedder Bay which is in British
Columbia. Kate Sollifan (?), Richard Struhr and myself were able to find the
CRESTED AUKLET about 5:30 in the afternoon after about 5 hours on the water. The
bird was located on the East side of Bentinick Island. So as you head out of
the mouth of Pedder Bay you'll cross Edye Rock and then you'll cross a channel.
The bird was about a hundred yards South of that spot. Also today at Reifel
there were 4 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS in with about 15 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS.
That's it. Good luck and good birding.
Monday, October 6, 12:18 PM. This is Dennis Duffy. This morning there was a
PALM WARBLER on the Edmonds waterfront. It was near Brackens Landing which is
just North of the ferry terminal. It was in some scotch broom and blackberries
in that area.
Tuesday, October 7, 12:15 PM. Hello. This is Kevin Aanerud, 523-6195, area
code 206, reporting today a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW which was seen at Magneson
Park. It's in the pea patch. Probably the easiest approach is from Sandpoint Way
and 74th Street. It's with lots of other SAVANNAH SPARROWS, WHITE-CROWNS,
GOLDEN-CROWNS, LINCOLN'S SPARROWS and other species of birds. At this location you
should be able to find it. It's been there a week. It was reported last week,
but it somehow didn't get on the BirdBox. Good birding.
