Greetings Tweeters,

Once again my "neo-birder" wife is getting all the luck! (She claims it's all skill) but when we stopped at the end of the washed out road just past Griffiths-Priday State Park in Copalis, I walked to the edge and gazed down into that small waterway and the beach beyond. Nothing but some light-but-cold wind and 700 to 800 gulls hunkered down. When I got back to the car, my wife said "What were those little birds darting by?" Oh, boy! Back out into the "light-but-cold" wind to discover SIX! maybe SEVEN! RED (not Red-Throated) PHALAROPES in the water right beneath us. Viewing distance 15 to 20 feet and one even flew a short distance to show off his wing markings! Whata way to get Life Bird # 120!
A large female NORTHERN HARRIER working the beach was a bonus.

Cheers, -Rolan
