Tweets - There were but six of us this morning. The weather turned out
far better than I anticipated, as there was no fog, wind, or rain. It was
rather dark, though, which was an issue trying to see birds, but we
managed pretty well. The park survived the rains fine, but the river has
risen about 16 inches since Friday (and that may be down a bit from the
high).

Highlights:

D.C. Cormorant First of fall, 2 on lake
Green Heron Quality view at weir
Canada Goose Flock of about 30 Cacklers overhead
Northern Pintail Flock of 9 overhead
Scaup sp. 1 female at Rowing Club - first of fall
Common Merganser 2 females at weir
Northern Harier Male over mansion
MERLIN In snag row, then flew SW
Wilson's Snipe 3-5, most below weir, 1 at RC
MOURNING DOVE 1 at compost piles
Brown Creeper 2 sightings
AMERICAN PIPIT 15 over dog area, landed for a while
Purple Finch About 5 females at Rowing Club

Ollie reported what he ID'd as a female GREEN-WINGED TEAL this afternoon
at the Rowing Club

We had a really great look at the GREEN HERON, sitting on the near shore
right at the weir - a beautiful adult bird. We had plenty of time to look
at the colors and feather edgings.

Surprisingly, we had no Hooded Merganser, American Coot, nor Downy
Woodpecker (though I may have heard one of the latter). This was also the
first week we didn't have Savannah Sparrow.

For the day, 55 species. For the year, still at 127
