Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 17 a SMITH?S LONGSPUR was found and videotaped in the fields
south of Marine Drive near Kelly Point Park in North Portland. It may still
be in the area.

An OVENBIRD was in North Bend October 16 and one may have been at the
Hammond Boat Basin October 19. The SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER just east of
Burns and the Frenchglen YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER continue to be seen. An
INDIGO BUNTING was at Frenchglen during the week. On October 19 two
HUDSONIAN GODWITS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.

Storms during the week brought many bird toward shore including good numbers
of RED PHALAROPES. A heavy DUNLIN movement occurred during the week. Many
migrant RED-NECKED and EARED GREBES were reported during the week.

On October 17 a TROPICAL KINGBIRD was on the Bayocean Spit at Tillamook Bay..
On October 18 two SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATERS were among a large number of
FULMARS off Ecola State Park. That day a GOSHAWK was at Gearhart. The first
THAYER?S GULLS were at the mouth of the Necanicum River October 18. A
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River October
22.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Bybee Lake in North Portland October 21. On
October 18 a RED PHALAROPE was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. A
WHITE-TAILED KITE was there the next day. On October 17 a SNOWY EGRET was in
Albany. A PACIFIC LOON was there October 19. A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was at Fern
Ridge Reservoir October 16. A NORTHERN SHRIKE is also in the area. A
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was there October 21. A SURF SCOTER was at Lost Creek
Reservoir on the Rogue River October 17.

An early SLATE-COLORED JUNCO was at Bend October 21. A BROAD-WINGED HAWK was
at Fields October 18.
