Sightings for Thursday, October 23 - 9:00 PM update.

AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER (Kelowna)
DUNLIN (Kelowna)
MEW GULL (Kelowna)
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE (Kelowna)

Other birds mentioned include:

Northern Shrike
Bonaparte's Gull
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH
Killdeer
SURF SCOTER
Peregrine Falcon
Greater Yellowlegs


Sightings for October 23

The three DUNLIN were again at Mud Bay, at the foot of Francis Ave in
Kelowna, this AM (DW). They had disappeared by the afternoon, but the juv.
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and three BONAPARTE'S GULLS were there (CC,GW).

An immature NORTHERN SHRIKE was along Cornish Road, in Rutland (CC) and
another was in E. Kelowna (GW).

The adult MEW GULL was at the McDonald's at the intersection of Hollywood Rd
and Hwy 33 in Rutland (CC).

Birders should keep their eyes open for EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES in the
Okanagan. A probable Eurasian Collared-Dove was along Rutland Rd at Cornish
Rd on Oct 16 (CC) and another was on Heimlich Rd, off K.L.O Rd near Mission
Ck on the 23rd (EF,LR). These birds may be from the expanding Similkameen
population and any further sightings of this species in the valley should be
reported.


Sightings for October 22

Three DUNLIN were with a small flock of KILLDEER at Mud Bay in Kelowna (CC).
Also, the juv. AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER continues at this location, which is
accessed from the foot of Francis Ave in Kelowna (CC).

A hike to the top of Mount Boucherie on Kelowna's Westside, produced a
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH (JL).


Sightings for October 15

The plover at Maude Roxby, again present today, has been identified as a
juv. AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER (CC). The bird has been feeding on the mudflats
in Mud Bay at the foot of Francis Ave in Kelowna. Also present in Mud Bay
were numerous KILLDEER, a late GREATER YELLOWLEGS and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER
(CC,HV). Overhead were a PEREGRINE FALCON and an imm. ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
(CC). 6 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were also in Mud Bay (CC), and a single
BONAPARTE'S was at Sutherland Park in Kelowna's North End (HV).

The ad. male SURF SCOTER continues on the Kelowna Waterfront at Rotary Beach
on Lakeshore Road (HV).
