This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Friday,
October 24th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare Bird Alert for a HUDSONIAN GODWIT.

Sightings for October 24

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was observed with 7 MARBLED GODWITS at the Tsawwassen
Ferry Jetty's Compensation Lagoon. Also present were 4 CASPIAN TERNS, 3
adults and a juvenile.

In a field between 88th and the Mansion were 7 Golden-Plovers consisting of
4 AMERICAN, 1 PACIFIC and one of undetermined species.

At Blackie Spit was a LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

October 23

A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was discovered in the company of 6 MARBLED GODWITS at the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty's Compensation Lagoon.

The CATTLE EGRET was seen on Westham Island, 2 fields east of Westham Island
Rd.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was observed along 72nd near OWL. Near 72nd & Hwy 10 was
a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

A HERMIT THRUSH was reported near the intersection of Broom & Lilac Rds. in
Surrey.

October 22

CATTLE EGRETS were observed from 2 different locations. One in a field with
cattle near 72nd & 36th. Another was seen on Westham Island.

The WESTERN SCRUB JAY continued for a 6th day at 4126 River Rd. W in Ladner.
This house is west of 41B & River Rd.

Observed at Brunswick Point was a BARN OWL in the woodlot.

At Wellington Park was a WESTERN MEADOWLARK.

Two PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen in a field off 34th just south of River
Rd. At the opposite end of 34th were 30 LAPLAND LONGSPURS.

Reported from Reifel were 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS, 7 SANDHILL CRANES,
and a SWAMP SPARROW near the tower.

In a ploughed field between 88th and the Mansion were 6 GOLDEN-PLOVERS and 4
HORNED LARKS.
