Hello all. A scrub jay showed up yesterday for a short time in my yard in
Mt. Vernon. What is interesting is that I was throwing out the nightly
peanuts for my 5 resident stallars jays. Before I got into the house and
before the stellars showed up, the Scrub Jay flew into my tree and hopped
onto the deck for the first peanut, more brave than the Stellar's had ever
been. Its like the scrub jay was waiting for dinner, yet I have never seen
him/her before. The only explanation that I can figure is that they are
much smarter than we know. The stellars jays showed up about five minutes
later. The scrub came back for a few more peanuts that night, and I
haven't seen him since. We also now have the (assumed to be) same Anna's
hummingbird that we had last winter, visiting our feeder. I don't know
about everyone else, but this is as birdy as my yard has been in years.
Maybe its the weather.
