Yesterday (10/25/03) I birded Drayton Harbor in Whatcom County from first
to last light.

Didn't find the target Hunsonian Godwit, but as always, there were
consolition prizes. Here are some highlights.

Common Loon - many
Pacific Loon - 2
Red-throated Loon - 1
Snow Goose - 2 birds on the lawn. Another observer told me that she had
seen them the day before at the same location.
Eurasian Wigeon - 1
Harlequin Duck - several
Long-tailed Duck - 5
all 3 scoters
Peregrine Falcon - 1 adult Peale's on a mast in the harbor. It hid well
among the fake owls.
Black-bellied Plover - a large flock on the incoming evening tide. 3-400.
Searched thoroughly, but no goldens. Most were adults; some with black on
belly; a few juvs.
Short-billed Dowitcher - 1 juv. Well seen. This bird clearly had
patterned tertials. It was seen with a large flock of BB Plovers. It was
the only dowitcher observed. It made no sound.
Greater Yellowlegs - 5
Red Knot - 2 With the flock on Dunlin and BB Plovers. In 2001, I had 2 Red
Knots at this same location on Oct 20.
Dunlin - they're back. Many seen.

56 species for the day.

It was a good day.
