Hi all,
We had a family gathering at my home on Saturday and carved up some pumpkins
for Halloween. I kept the inside membrane, seeds, parts and pieces in two
large bowls, intending to separate the seed from the rest of the stuff. My plan
was to dry the seed and feed them to the birds. It was late last night before
everyone went home so this morning I still had the task to do. I left the bowls
out on the deck overnight knowing they would not be bothered. Sunday morning,
the Stellar Jays took it upon themselves to start the chore first. They stood
on the rim of the bowls and tossed anything that wasn't seed out of the way
then stuffed themselves with all the seed they could garner. I let them do this
for a while then took the job away from them and finished it myself. It was
fun to watch. Not fun to clean up all the stuff they threw all over the deck.
But entertaining to say the least.
Happily birding,
