This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Monday 27 October (2003). This hotline,

On 19 Oct a breeding plumaged male YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was spotted near
Asotin, Asotin Co WA according to Carole Vande Voorde. To get there, head
south on WA 129 from Clarkston toward Asotin. Just before crossing the
bridge and entering Asotin, turn right onto Asotin Creek Road. Head up
Asotin Creek Road 6 miles, staying right when Cloverland Road heads off to
the left. Look for the bird with a small flock of chickadees and kinglets on
the property of Dean Davies, addressed 11060. WA DeLorme 43, B-7.

At Mann Lake, east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID on 12 Oct was a PRAIRIE
FALCON and a single AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER according to Carole Vande Voorde
and many others. On 18 Oct was a single WHITE-WINGED SCOTER according to
Terry and Christine Gray and many others. The White-winged was gone on 19
Oct, but a single SURF SCOTER was present according to Charles Swift. There
are 2 ways to Mann Lake: the scenic route: Mann Lake, Nez Perce Co ID. From
the north end of Lewiston, follow US 12 south into town, cross the
Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge and immediately take the first left
(east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left (east) onto East Main Street and go
about a half mile to the flashing yellow lights. Turn right (south) onto
Lapwai (a.k.a. Lindsay Creek) Road. When the road forks stay right on
Lindsay Creek Road (Nez Perce County Road 460) and follow it about 5 miles
to its terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east) onto Grelle Avenue and
just past the sharp right curve, turn left (east) onto East Powers Avenue
(a.k.a. Lapwai Road). Continue straight (east) past the grain towers to the
main parking lot. The urban route: The other way is to cross the Clearwater
River, stay left at the first light and take 21st Street up the hill. Follow
it until it turns into a 2-lane and then turn left onto Powers. Follow
Powers to the grain towers. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

Also in the Lewiston ID / Clarkston WA area: Carole also reports a single
EURASIAN WIGEON at Kiwanis Park in Lewiston on 10 Oct and a single SURF
SCOTER in the Snake River across from the Clarkston Golf Club along US 12 in
the Red Wolf Marina on 19 Oct. Kiwanis Park is directly south of the US 12
bridge between Lewiston and Clarkston and along Snake River Drive.

During the week of 13 Oct near Coolin, Bonner Co ID and on the southern end
of Priest Lake, Bob Bond reports 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 12 WHITE-WINGED
SCOTERS, and 1 SURF SCOTER. Coolin is on ID DeLorme 62, AB-1.

At Soap Lake, Grant Co WA on 20 Oct, Doug Schonewald found a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER on East Beach and another at West Beach. Not sure if it was the same
bird or not. Soap Lake, near the town of Soap Lake, is north-northeast of
Moses Lake. WA DeLorme 68-69, A, right on the crease. Also that day on
nearby Blue Lake was a single PACIFIC LOON. Blue Lake is along WA 17 in
Grant Co, about 8 miles southwest of US 2 and Banks Lake. WA DeLorme 85,
D-5.

On Moscow Mountain, Latah Co ID this past week was a single BLUE JAY at the
feeder of Dave Holick, 8 miles east northeast of Moscow, and a BARRED OWL
calling at Tom Besser's.

A single AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was at Spring Valley Reservoir on 25 Oct
according to Charles Swift. Watch for signs to Spring Valley Reservoir just
a couple of miles east of Troy, Latah Co ID along ID 8. ID DeLorme 58,
BC-1.5.
