While coming back from Spokane yesterday afternoon I saw what looked like a gyrfalcon cross Hwy 395 4 miles north of the Lind turnoff. By the time I stopped the bird was over the hill to the west and out of sight. I did get a good look and right away went to a gyr id because the wings were falcon like but wider at the body than a prairie or peregrine would show. It was also a large falcon larger than I am use to seeing with our prairies and peregrines. If you are going to be in the area over the weekend keep your eyes peeled for this bird.

I spoke to Randy Hill this morning about it and he said that gyrs have been seen often, in the past, in the Ritzville area during the early November period. This comes from the State folks who were doing the gyrfalcon work in years past.
