This beautiful Monday morning I birded the Foulweather Bluff area,
notibly the conservancy's preserve. The wetland is really drying up exposing
great habitat for shorebirds and a few waterfowl have also showed up. This
morning when I arrived I located a Baird's Sandpiper (juvenile) reported by Ross
Waggoner earlier this week, 3 Least Sandpipers, 6 Western Sandpipers, 2 Greater
Yellowlegs, 1 Semipalm Sandpiper (juvenile), 12 Red-necked Grebes, 4
Green-winged Teal, 1 Peregrine Falcon that made repeated dives at the small shorebird
flocks but seemed disinterested in taking anything (even a Band-tailed Pigeon
that flew by), 1 Cooper's Hawk (juvenile), 1 Osprey, and 1 Hairy Woodpecker.
Another beautiful morning to bird,
Doug Watkins
