Subject: Buff-breasted Sand still at Pt. Townsend

As of 5.30pm Tuesday the buff-breasted sandpiper was still present at
Kah Tai Lagoon in Port Townsend. This bird is amazingly tame - once it
is no longer in the company of the killdeer. A little too tame at times
- often I could not focus my scope down far enough to take a picture !!!

I am not sure how much longer it will stick around however. It had an
extremely close call with a sharp-shinned hawk. The bird was not seen
after this - though it may still be in the area - most probably on the
north side of the lagoon which is surrounded by dense reeds and so
provides better protection against hawks and falcons.

I got a few reasonable, though not exactly award winning photos, which
I will post on the waders.org web sites as soon as I can.
