Hi Tweeters,

I have a 1913 field guide "Western Bird Guide, birds of the Rockies and West
to the Pacific". by C.A.Reed, H.F. Harvey, and R.I. Brasher.
In it there are 5 Goldfinches listed.

Pale Goldfinch (Astragalinus tristis pallidus)
Willow Goldfinch (Astragalinus tristis salicamara)
Arkansas Goldfinch (Astragalinus psaltria)
Green backed Goldfinch (Astragalinus psaltria hesperophilus)
Lawrence Goldfinch (Astragalinus lawrencei)

In a 1962 Field Guide to the Birds of Washington State, by E.J. Larrison and
E.N. Francq, it lists only one.
American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis)
It mentions it as the state bird.

I just thought this would be interesting to share.
