Hi Christy and Tweeters,

I was wondering if any of the active preservation groups have stepped up to the plate for this worthy cause, such as the Nature Conservancy. It must be a good location if it is otherwise slated for developement. Does anyone know more about the efforts to save this heronry?

I just learned this group has gotten a 30 day extension. This gives a little
breathing room, but not much. I agree this is a worthy cause and a rare
opportunity. Please contact Patricia Powell at 360-321-5141 or check out

For anyone with money looking for a good cause, it sounds like this is a
worthy cause since so many of us spend time birding in the area, and the
clock is ticking...

Camano heron nesting site purchase running out of time
For sale: a 188-bed heron condo with 31 acres of forested waterfront
property and a view. Asking price: $510,000. This real estate offer has
attracted 185 bird lovers who have pooled their money in an attempt to
save one of the five largest heron colonies in Puget Sound from
development pressures. The 188-nest colony is located near Davis Slough
on north Camano Island. But with four days left before this unusual offer
expires, the bird buddies are falling short. They still have to raise
$130,000 by Saturday. (08/27/03) Everett Herald
