Hi all -
I spent the morning at Discovery Park [in Seattle] and enjoyed a few
exciting mixed flocks -
7 warbler species for the day, the best of which was a NASHVILLE
WARBLER in among a good-sized mixed flock in the trees & bushes at
the west end of the meadow ['bird alley']. Also in the area:
Orange-crowned [many], Wilsons [one, maybe 2] and Common
Yellowthroats [several], and a FOX SPARROW!

Down along the edges of the small meadow between the restrooms and
the water treatment plant was another good mixed flock that included
a Black-throated Gray, Townsends [2], Yellow [1 or 2], and more OCs.

Down along the south beach, the tide was out, so I had an excuse not
to follow-up on my plan to sort through the gulls [hard to get
excited about that after the warblers....] --Notables - A young [I
think] harbor seal was flopping around on the beach, not quite
seeming all that healthy. And in the bushes along the bluffs a large
group of California Quail were calling & clucking away, occasionally
even flying down to the beach-logs. Otherwise the action was a bit
too far out across the mud to make any ids. there was one group of 7
Westerns wandering the mud flats, and a couple killdeer, but that was
all the shorebird action I saw.

On the way out, I ran into another mixed flock (right at the top of
the path down to the beach), mostly made up of bushtits & chickadees,
but also including another Black-throated Gray, another OC, and a
Hutton's Vireo that almost convinced me it was a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

a good day --
