Joyce and I headed back out to Sprague lake today
(9/10/03) in order to find the Sabine's Gull. In
route, we took the Salnave Road exit off I90 and saw a
Great Egret at the eastern end of the first pond (the
one before Heron Pond) north of the exit.

At the south end of Sprague Lake, we ran into Jim
Acton. As we scanned the lake, we saw 16 Common Terns,
White Pelicans, DC Cormorants, large flocks of Bank
Swallows, Barn Swallows, and VG Swallows.

Along the willow-lined shoreline, we had Wilson's
Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped
Warbler, and an adult and a juvenile Willow
Flycatcher, Savannah Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrow,
Ame. Pipit, and No. Harrier. Apparently, the Sabine's
Gull has departed.

There were several Ospreys along the east shore of the
lake. Unfortunately, there appeared to be a young
Osprey entangled in some wire below the nesting
platform.

On Sheep Lake, we had crippling views of a
Short-billed Dowitcher. In addition, there were at
least a dozen Baird's Sandpipers, Western Sandpiper,
and a Pectoral Sandpiper.
