Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 11. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On September 4 a WHITE-WINGED DOVE flew past Coxcomb Hill in Astoria. A
LONG-BILLED MURRELET was seen off Cape Arago near Coos Bay September 10. The
LAWRENCE?S GOLDFINCH continues to be seen at a Roseburg feeder. On September
7 an OVENBIRD, a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, and a CATBIRD were seen in Bend. A
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was in Fields September 3. A BLACKPOLL WARBLER was at
Malheur NWR Headquarters September 7, and on September 9 a BLUE-WINGED
WARBLER was at Riley Pond along Highway 20 west of Riley. A RUFF was at
Hatfield lake near Bend September 5.

Heavy migrations were reported during the week with PIPITS, GOLDEN-CROWNED,
LINCOLN?S, and FOX SPARROWS arriving in numbers. VAUX?S SWIFTS are now
regular at the usual chimney roosts.

Ten SNOWY EGRETS were along the Chetco River near Brookings September 5. On
September 6 a noticable heavy TURKEY VULTURE and swallow movement passed
Flores Lake south of Bandon. A SAY?S PHOEBE was on the North Spit of Coos
Bay September 7.

On September 8 a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET was on Sauvie Island. About 1650 that
day a SAW-WHET OWL was calling from the oaks near the Oak Island Nature
Trail parking lot on the Island. On September 10 a BLACK TERN was at the
Vanport Wetlands in North Portland. Four probable ARCTIC TERNS were in Salem
September 4. A DUSKY FLYCATCHER was reported from Skinner?s Butte in Eugene
September 8. A flock of over 3200 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS were south of Grants
Pass September 4.

On September 7 five COMMON TERNS were at Tumalo Reservoir west of Bend. On
September 6 three COMMON TERNS were at McNary Dam and eight were at Cold
Springs NWR a few miles south. On September 3 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at
P Ranch in Malheur NWR. A REDSTART was at Headquarters September 4, and a
GREEN HERON was at Fields September 7.
