This is the Okanagan Valley (BC) Rare Bird Alert (250-491-7738).


Sightings for Thursday, September 11 - morning update.


The Featured Birds Include:

TENNESSEE WARBLER (Vaseux)
CASPIAN TERN (Vaseux)
LAPLAND LONGSPUR (Kelowna)
SANDERLING (Kelowna)

Other birds mentioned include:

Olive-sided Flycatcher
Clay-colored Sparrow
American Redstart
Horned Lark
GREAT EGRET
Black-bellied Plover
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER
STILT SANDPIPER


Sightings for September 11

On the 9th, 2 SANDERLINGS were reported on the mudflats at the S. end of
Duck Lake in Kelowna (RM).

At the Vaseux banding station on the 10th, a TENNESSEE WARBLER was banded
(BL,SO). Seen flying N. along the Okanagan River Channel from the banding
station, were two CASPIAN TERNS (BL,SO).

In Kelowna, a first for the Chichester Bird Sanctuary was a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR. At the E. end of the sanctuary, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen,
while at the W. end, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was present (CC).


Sightings for September 8

A first fall TENNESSEE WARBLER was found at the E. pond at the Chichester
Bird Sanctuary in Kelowna (CC). At the W. pond was an AMERICAN REDSTART
(CC).

The turf-farms along Bulman Road, in Kelowna, had 30 HORNED LARKS (CC).


Sightings for September 7

A GREAT EGRET was seen in the marshes N. of Vaseux Lake (CC,BL,CS,m.ob).

In Vernon, the juv. SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER continues at the Mackay's
Reservoir (CS).

Along the Salmon Arm Foreshore, 2 juv. BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were in the
rocks just beyond Christmas Island and a juv. STILT SANDPIPER was off the
dog park at the foot of Narcisse Road (DC).
