This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Thursday, September 11th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured birds are AMERICAN AVOCET and AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER

Sightings for September 11th

At the Iona Ponds was an AMERICAN AVOCET. Nearby was a YELLOW WARBLER.

At the foot of 104th, Boundary Bay, were a juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER,
a MARBLED GODWIT, 15 RED KNOTS, a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and a SEMI-PALMATED
SANDPIPER.

Nearby at 96th Street and Hornby Drive was a juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN
PLOVER.

At Serpentine Fen were 2 VIRGINIA RAILS and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER.

There were no sightings for September 10th

September 9th

At Pitt Lake were 2 TURKEY VULTURES and a GRAY CATBIRD.

At the compensation lagoon at the Tsawwassen ferry jetty were 2 MARBLED
GODWITS and 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

September 8th

A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen flying over New Brighton Park in Vancouver.

In a late report for Sunday, there are 7 SANDHILL CRANES at Reifel Bird
Sanctuary.

September 7th

At Reifel today along the East Dyke Trail was a female AMERICAN REDSTART.
Also along this trail was a NASHVILLE WARBLER. Other birds seen at the
refuge were a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a PEREGRINE FALCON, 10 VAUX'S
SWIFTS, a PILEATED WOODPECKER, a VIRGINIA RAIL and a BANK SWALLOW.

At Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, a bird thought to possibly be a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen. Confirmation is desired.

In a late report from Saturday, a GREEN HERON was seen at MacDonald Beach on
Sea Island.

September 6th

At Burnaby Lake, near the nature house was a SOLITARY SANDPIPER. Also at the
lake was a GREEN HERON.
