WOW what a great day in western Walla Walla County birding. I will list the highlights discovered on this Blue Mountain Audubon Fieldtrip.

Walla Walla River delta

55 American White Pelicans on and over the delta, then 200+ to the north along the Peninsula HMU ...........How many of these should be killed to protect salmon?

60+ American Wigion

4 American Avocets

3 Herring Gulls

15 Common Terns

2 PARASITIC JAEGERS........ONE LIGHT MORPH ADULT IN BEAUTIFUL PLUMAGE and ONE DARK MORPH SUB-ADULT.When spotted by MerryLynn these two jaegers were setting on the surface near an American White Pelican about 300m from shore. The adult soon flew down stream and again lit on the surface of the river about 500' from the sub-adult bird. After 10 min. or so the adult came in over the delta flushing everything off and taking after a Common Tern. We watched these two pirates for 30+ min.. We are going to go back out tomarrow morning at 6 A.M. and watch for more great birds on the Walla Walla River delta.

1 Golden crowned Sparrow.......at Hood Park

Thats it and good birding!
Later Mike
