Hi, Mary,

Hi, you're probably be deluged, but here are a few suggestions:

Your county extension agent--every WA county has its own--sponsors the
Master Gardener program, and each master gardener knows that kind of
question. The extension agent, too, has good info on this question, and
along with it suggestions of what to do about deer. Besides adopting and
naming them, that is. WSU, which sponsors each county's extension program,
publishes many brochures and booklets on the subject of nature planting,
bird-loving shrubs etc. The price ranges from 0 from WSU to oh, a doller or
so.

WSU/Extension agents are also good about warning gardeners not to import
plants that will cause the end of civilization as we know it, as happened in
Hawaii. There, some great private gardens smuggled in plants that caused
great hard to the indigenous world of plants.

Another source is Sunset Magazine, which has published not only the
gardener's big tome but specialized booklets. They can be reached on web.
Or they could in 1977 when I last wrote to Sunset.

If you type in "Gardening for Birds," on web, you'll have to hire a person
full-time just to download, and then move to a larger house.

Good luck.

Kathleen in Ocean Shores
