Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 18. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

The offshore boat trip out of the mouth of the Columbia River September 13
found a WILSON?S STORM-PETREL. On September 13 a BLUE-HEADED VIREO was
reported from Alton-Baker Park in Eugene. On September 13 a BLACKPOLL
WARBLER was at Mt. Tabor Park in southeast Portland. A JUVENILE
rose-breasted grosbeak was in southwest Portland September 12. A VIRGINIA?S
WARBLER was on the North Spit of Coos Bay September 11 and 12.

An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was in Brookings September 10. On September 11 an
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and two SNOWY EGRETS were at Bandon. A SABINE?S GULL
and a MANX SHEARWATER were off Boiler Bay September 17. That day a flock of
about 400 BAND-TAILED PIGEONS were near Toledo. Over 200 BROWN PELICANS were
at Netarts Bay September 14 while good numbers were still at the mouth of
the Columbia River. On September 14 twelve COMMON TERNS were at the Columbia
mouth.

Several hundred SANDHILL CRANES are now at Ridgefield NWR and Sauvie Island..
On September 14 an adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was on the Island. On September
15 eight BLACK SWIFTS were over Steigerwald NWR near Washougal. Vanport
Wetlands in North Portland attracted a STILT SANDPIPER, an AMERICAN
GOLDEN-PLOVER, a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and a VESPER SPARROW during the week..
At the Fernihill Wetlands in Forest Grove a COOPER?S HAWK, a MERLIN, a
PEREGRINE FALCON, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON
were reported. An adult WESTERN GULL was there September 17. On September 14
two BREWER?S SPARROWS and a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER were at Fern Ridge
Reservoir.

A SABINE?S GULL and a SANDERLING were at the Prineville Sewage Ponds
September 17. That day two SANDERLINGS and two STILT SANDPIPERS were at Cold
Springs NWR near Hermiston. On September 13 a PALM WARBLER was among the
migrant swarm at Malheur NWR Headquarters. Large numbers of birds are now
gathering at Lake Abert. During the week over 50,000 SHOVELERS and several
hundred AVOCETS and BLACK-NECKED STILTS were present.
