This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Thursday, September 18th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare Bird Alert for WHITE-FACED IBIS and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW.

Sightings for September 18th

At Boundary Bay, east of the pilings between 104th and 96th Streets, was a
WHITE-FACED IBIS. The bird was seen flying toward 104th Street. Also in the
area were 9 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS. Near the mansion were a STILT
SANDPIPER, a MARBLED GODWIT, a RED KNOT and another AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER.

A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at the base of the north jetty at Iona.

At Reifel, near the tower was a juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER. Nearby were
25 YELLOW WARBLERS.

There were 2 MARBLED GODWITS at the compensation lagoon at the Tsawwassen
Ferry Jetty.

In a report from Wednesday, there were 4 SANDHILL CRANES at Burns Drive in
Delta.

September 17th

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen throughout the day feeding in brambles near
an open meadow north of Northwest Marine Drive on the Spanish Banks hill.

At the foot of 104th, Boundary Bay were 21 HORNED LARKS, 10 SEMI-PALMATED
PLOVERS, 5 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 1 adult and 2 juvenile PEREGRINE FALCONS.

Over the Vedder Canal near Highway 1 were hundreds of VAUX'S SWIFTS.

September 16th

In the Crescent Beach / Blackie Spit area was a BLACK TERN. Also here were a
WESTERN MEADOWLARK, 4 BLACK SWIFTS, 1 VAUX'S SWIFT and 10 YELLOW WARBLERS.

At Boundary Bay Regional Park was a TURKEY VULTURE.

September 15th

In Aldergrove, at the northeast area of Aldergrove Lake Regional Park in an
area known as Aldergrove Bowl, a VESPER SPARROW was seen. The location is
off of LaFeuvre Road, south of 8th Avenue.

A GREAT-HORNED OWL was seen in Joe Brown Park in Surrey.

At Point Roberts was an AMERICAN KESTREL.

Seen flying over the Richmond West Dyke was a TREE SWALLOW.

In the Grant Narrows area of Pitt Meadows were 4 OSPREYS, 2 TURKEY VULTURES,
a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, a PINE GROSBEAK, 8 VAUX'S SWIFTS and 2
BLUE-WINGED TEALS.
