Dear Tweeters,

The Great Egret near Hamilton (Skagit County, at a slough north of SR 20 mile 76.2) was still there as of this morning. It is easy to find in the morning but not always visible in the afternoon.

Here is a question I am somewhat embarrassed to ask: how does one tell a flock of Brewer's Blackbirds overhead from a flock of Red-winged Blackbirds? Sometimes I can tell them apart (if I happen to have binoculars handy) but the call notes strike me as similar, and the shapes fairly similar too. We get big flocks of both species in my area, and I would like to get better at discerning them.
