Yesterday I sat in my car and watched a Great Blue Heron as it walked
toward me along the edge of a pond, about 60 feet away.

It stopped walking; stretched its neck. Then it began to sway. The head
remained nearly motionless as the upright neck and upper body swayed
steadily left and right in exaggerated fashion. My thought while observing
this was that perhaps the bird had something stuck in its throat.

After several seconds, the bird quickly struck and came up with a long
writhing snake.

Coincidence? Hunting Technique? Oddly enough, the heron did not eat the
snake. Either the snake escaped or was let go.

Anyway, it was fun to watch.
