Hi tweeters,

My wife and I went to Penn Cove just north of Coupeville on Whidbey Island last Sunday to see if the scoters had returned. Surf Scoters were there in large numbers with smaller quantities of White-winged Scoters and Western Grebes. Common Loons, Red-necked Grebes, Pigeon Guillemots and a couple of gull species added to the spectacle. A scope is useful, but we could see a lot with binoculars from the area near the old San de Fuca store, now a pottery workshop. Also, to the west a few miles at Libbey Beach, there were Harlequin Ducks.

Good birding, Alan Roedell
