I was so sorry to hear about George Plimpton's death. You may not know
that, among his other experiences as a "participatory journalist", he took
part in the 73rd Christmas Bird Count, as Victor Emmanuel's partner, no
less! He wrote an amusing piece about it that is worth seeking out. I
found it in the collection "The Best of Plimpton", published in 1990.
