Sunday Bird Walk: Buttertubs Marsh, Nanaimo, September 28/03, 8:45 a.m.
to 12:00 p.m.

Weather: Sunny and warm, calm winds and about 25? C.

Highlights: A young Merlin attempted to challenge a Northern Harrier.
He screamed and flew right at the Harrier but to no avail--the Harrier
was unfazed. The youngster then circled above us and challenged a
Northern Flicker. The Flicker screamed right back at him and avoided
any further contact. Again the Merlin circled above us. It was a
awesome show! A Pileated Woodpecker was about five feet from us doing a
number on a dead Alder Tree.
