Nets criss-cross the high-water Duwamish, and the gulls are doing well, thank-you-very-much. A drifting salmon carcass was a floating banquet for at least four 1st-year GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS. An adult of the species on the shoreline attacked a partially submerged fish, and had two AMERICAN CROWS as side-boys. Bird of the day: FOX SPARROW. The call just a few feet to the north of me had me checking all over the blackberry/butterfly bush/"other" thicket. Finally, after a few pishes and other assorted noises (Screech and Pygmy-Owl, too), up popped the sparrow. I figure all the racket may have influenced the pop-up, but maybe the sparrow was going to move, anyway. At any rate: a first for this species at this location for me.
