Tweeters,
When I arrived at my viewing spot, an immature BALD EAGLE was perched on one of the old pilings near the goose-exclusion area to the south; a PEREGRINE FALCON was perched on the west power tower (second rung of the catwalk--an unusual spot); and both OSPREYS were at the Hamm Creek nest site. Within 10 minutes, the Ospreys and falcon flew off, and the eagle launched, rising to a point where it then tried to catch something in the water (unsuccessful) and headed back to the exclusion area. After a few minutes there, it took off, landing on the tallest piling next to the pier to the west (across from me). The gulls and crows had a field day bombarding it, but then broke off. No Bufflehead or Goldeneyes today: could be the presence of the eagle kept them away from Turning Basin #3.

Spotted the first swallows today as I scoped the Ospreys: TREE SWALLOWS. I know they've been back, but haven't seen any here. The MEW GULLS continue in force: 76 of them today.

Clear skies and chilly breeze from the north: another fine Spring day on the river.

Birds seen today include the following:
Canada Goose (5; looks like 2 pair and a loner)
Gadwall (2; a pair)
Mallard (2; a pair)
Double-crested Cormorant (6)
Osprey (2)
Bald Eagle
Red-tailed Hawk (2; across SR 599 toward Delridge area of West Seattle--may have a nest there)
Peregrine Falcon
Mew Gull (76)
Glaucous-winged Gull (12)
Rock Pigeon (19)
American Crow (10)
Tree Swallow (4)
Bewick's Wren
European Starling (30)
Song Sparrow (3)
Red-winged Blackbird (1; but I thought I heard a second one calling. Territory is in the goose-exclusion area to the south.)
House Finch (2)

May all your birds be identified,
