Hello again -
Today's birding took me to Grays Harbor & Pacific County -- weather
was a bit cloudy in the early morning, then mostly beautiful with
periods of strong winds along the coast.
Some notable sightings:
GRAYS HARBOR:
Wenzel Slough Rd.:[Delorme. p.45 A-5]
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE - Right where reported by others, on a fence post
next to the road, 1.2 mi east of the intersection w/ Keyes Rd.
TURKEY VULTURE - 9 perched in the trees right at the same spot. I
kept turning to another tree and finding a couple more.
WILSON'S SNIPE - 3 winnowing and flying around
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT - several singing
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER -
WESTERN SCRUB JAY - one near airport
OSPREY 2 - One sitting next to nest, visible from the LOSH stop,
aways to the north. The other flew from that general area across the
road and to the river.

Brady Loop Rd.[Delorme p. 44 A-4]
PINK-FOOTED GOOSE - Still there, today w/ 2 GWF GEESE and many Canadas
SORA - One in plain view at bottom of hill on Foster Rd.
AMERICAN KESTREL - 2 along north end of the loop.

PACIFIC CO. Tokeland [Delorme 44 C-1]
Tokeland Marina
MARBLED GODWIT - at high tide the whole gang was on the beach and docks .
WILLET - 4 [segregated from the MAGOs this time]
LONG BILLED DOWITCHER - one with the MAGOs
WHIMBREL - One with the MAGOs.
PACIFIC LOON 1 off fishing dock
COMMON LOON - 2 or 3 off fishing dock
HARLEQUIN DUCK - 1 male a bit south of the marina
BRANT - 20-30? out a ways on the water.
TURKEY VULTURE - One soaring overhead as a I arrived at ~1:00

Graveyard Spit [off 4th St.]
CASPIAN TERN - I had thought I heard one or two back at the marina,
but at this stop it was no longer a question - 30+ were all present,
back from their travels and loud as ever.
LONG-BILLED CURLEW - 11
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER - ~20 in every plumage variety.
DUNLIN - Both here and at marina, also in transitional plumages.

GREATER YELLOWLEGS - 2 back at the beach/marsh area accessed near the casino.

GRAYS HARBOR CO. [again]
Westhaven SP. Jetty -[Delorme, p. 58 A/B -2]
high winds made most scoping futile - I did stick around for a few
minute, enough to see a few
BLACK TURNSTONES and at least one SURFBIRD. No doubt, someone with a
bit more fortitude would have found much more.
Also, along the beach were many SANDERLING.

Ocosta 3rd St. [Delorme, p. 58 A/B-3]
[at low tide, not much hanging around - I was kindof hoping for my
FOS Cin.Teal today there --]
WILSONS SNIPE - 3-5 along the dirt road/path running west through the field
GREATER YELLOWLEGS - one in the pond on the east side, before the hill.

A good day,

Matt Bartels
