Subject: not only rats . . .

Hi, Tweets

Just a little addition to what Bruce listed about rats. Unfortunately, rats
aren't the only ones that can do some of those things. Our beloved (sigh)
native Douglas squirrel is a master at being bad. One summer I had two
squirrels-in-the -toilet episodes, one downstairs and one upstairs (at
different times). It's a bit disconcerting to hear something scratching
from within the toilet bowl, to say the least. For the record, both were
caught and released.

Two years ago, while I was out at Salt Creek happily counting vultures,
Douglas squirrels were running rampant throughout my house, which is fairly
large. Luckily, a neighbor was checking things and they/it had only been in
the house for a day or so - they got in by chewing through the dryer vent
(not solid metal) in the laundry room, which was open to the whole house.
They/it then spent the rest of the time trying to get out every window in
the house and in the process knocking things over, etc., etc., etc. When I
came into the house I thought it had been burlarized. They also finished
off a huge open bowl of peanuts - my kitchen floor was paved with peanut
shells!!

Oh well, perhaps better than rats.

Cheers, Diann
