Hi All,
I think the mystery bird is a juvenile European Tree Sparrow because of the brown cap and cheek mark. Nebraska isn't far out of range for that.
Let's tidy up the rat talk, since we're discussing at least three species and I doubt if they are even all in the same genus, are they? The woodrat is a native, is quite small, rather handsome if you don't look at the tail and maybe even an indigenous species here(???) Woodrats shouldn't be lumped in with the Norway Rat. Are there Black Rats here?
Btw we have a Violet Green Swallow box at our market store next to the newsstand in case anyone is looking for one. Our swallows at the house have been back for a week, although they were somewhere else today.
