Hilary -

I've had a suet feeder up in my yard in the same place for 5 years, and it
has been undisturbed by varmints except for the occasional reckless
starling.

Within 24 hours this spring, though, squirrels destroyed the feeder just
like you describe! Chewing the borders, the sides, pulling the wire mesh
out, and then finally chewing through the nylon string holding the feeder
up!

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Time to get out the Sawz-all and make a metal suet feeder, I guess!
